The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is specifically designed to meet the requirements set out by the Department for Education’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, ensuring that those working with young children can provide the highest level of care in emergency situations.
This qualification is ideal for:
• Childcare professionals: Individuals who have completed a Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification and are working within early years settings. This qualification allows them to meet the statutory requirements for inclusion in staff-to-child ratios, as required by the EYFS framework.
• Registered childminders and assistants: Those working in a registered childminder capacity who are required by Ofsted to hold a current and full paediatric first aid certificate to meet EYFS requirements and maintain their registration.
• School staff: Teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff working in early years settings or primary schools who need to ensure they can respond effectively to accidents or medical emergencies involving children.
• Parents, grandparents, and carers: Anyone with a non-professional role in caring for children, such as parents or grandparents, who wish to learn key paediatric first aid skills to be prepared for emergencies in the home or while caring for children outside of school settings.
Relevant for Ofsted and Schools for those working in early years settings or in a school environment, this course ensures compliance with Ofsted regulations and the EYFS Framework, which require staff to have a qualified first aider on-site.
By completing this course, childcare professionals, childminders, school staff, and others can demonstrate their commitment to the safety and well-being of the children in their care.
• Ofsted Compliance: Ofsted inspectors require that childcare providers maintain appropriate qualifications for staff members, including paediatric first aid certification. This course ensures that childminders and early years practitioners meet those necessary standards for registration and operation.
• School Requirements: Primary and nursery school settings also require staff to be trained in paediatric first aid, ensuring a safe environment for students. Schools are responsible for safeguarding children and ensuring that the correct first aid measures are in place.
Important Note: For individuals who have completed a Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification on or after 30th June 2016, it is a statutory requirement to hold either a full Paediatric First Aid or Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate within three months of beginning work in an early years setting or childcare environment.
By undertaking this qualification, learners will be equipped with the confidence, skills, and practical knowledge to respond effectively in emergencies, ensuring the safety of children in both professional and personal care environments. This certification is recognised by Ofsted, schools, and other educational institutions, making it an essential qualification for those working with children.
